(Bridgeport, Conn.) - Graduate student Taylor Lepard (Toronto, Ontario) tossed his first career complete game, striking out 13 batters, in #12 SNHU's 7-3 win at Bridgeport on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SNHU opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning following a pair of walks and a two-run single to right field by senior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.).
The Penmen scored an additional run in the third inning following a pair of singles from redshirt sophomore Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) and redshirt sophomore Cristian Mercedes (Providence, R. I.). Rivera scored on a groundout by senior Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.).
SNHU extended the lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning after another single from Rivera, a walk by Henrie, and an error to score Rivera. Mulcay followed the error with a two-run homerun to right field..
Bridgeport scored three in the bottom of the ninth inning after a walk, a pair of errors, two hits and a balk.
Lepard allowed four hits, while striking out 13. All three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning were unearned. Lepard is 2-0.

NOTES:

The teams had hoped to work in a doubleheader, but adjusted to a single game in advance of afternoon rains.
SNHU, on an eleven-game win streak, is ranked 12th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll and still sits atop the NCBWA East Region Poll.
The Penmen improve to 38-9-1 all-time against Bridgeport. SNHU won both games this season, including a 4-2 win on April 5 in Bridgeport.
Rivera had three hits and three runs on the day to lead the Penmen.
Mulcay recorded his fourth home run of the season and had two hits and four RBIs in the game.
Two long hit streaks came to an end Tuesday as both redshirt sophomore Nick Schwartz (Massapequa, N.Y.) and freshman Anthony Poole (So. Portland, Maine) failed to get a hit. Schwartz had hits in 23 straight, and Poole had recorded hits in nine games in a row. Mulcay now has the longest active streak at seven games. Henrie has reached safely in 21 consecutive starts.

SNHU plays St. Thomas Aquinas tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Sparkill, NY, before a big NE10 Conference series at Franklin Pierce that starts Friday in Rindge.
