Four Goals from Chris Valentine Lift SNHU to Win at Assumption

Penmen Hold Off Greyhounds 14-13 For Second Win

Records: SNHU 2-4 (1-4 NE10), Assumption 2-6 (1-4 NE10)
(Worcester, Mass.) -  Senior Chris Valentine (Derry, N.H.) scored a season-high four goals and the SNHU Men's Lacrosse team picked up its first NE10 win of the season, 14-13 at Assumption University on Wednesday afternoon in Worcester.

  • Senior Owen McCuin (Hinesburg, Vt.) - 2 goals, 1 assist
  • Senior Tristan Pietz (Dudley, Mass.) -1 goal, 2 assists
  • Sophomore Ronan DePaul (Elkton, Md.) - 13 saves
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Junior Ryan Auger (Derry, N.H.) opened the scoring at 13:20 of the first---and a pair of goals by Valentine--put SNHU up 3-1 midway through the quarter.
  • The Greyhounds would chase the rest of the first half, but SNHU had a 6-4 halftime lead after second period goals by Valentine, sophomore Cody Fleming (Plaistow, N.H.), and Auger.
  • Four consecutive goals to open the third quarter put the Penmen up 10-4, and they carried a 12-8 lead to the fourth quarter.
  • SNHU continued to maintain a lead well into the fourth quarter.  Senior Jeremy Handman (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) scored his second goal of the game, a man-up goal at 8:51, to make it 14-9.
  • Assumption did mount a rally, outscoring the Penmen 4-0 the rest of the way, but SNHU kept the Greyhounds off the board for the final 3:30 to preserve the win.
NOTES
  • The Penmen had a 43-42 advantage on shots attempted.
  • Assumption picked up 29 ground balls to 27 for SNHU---and the teams split the 30 face offs.
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Assumption 26-11, and have won the last two contests.
