#11 Baseball Pounds Out 20 Runs In Series Finale Win Over Franklin Pierce

The Penmen had 19 hits including back-to-back home runs

Rindge, N.H. – The 11th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team pounded out 20 runs on 19 hits including four doubles and back-to-back home runs to capture a 20-6 win in game four of a weekend series against Franklin Pierce. The Penmen won the series 3-1 and enter the final week of the regular season with a four-game lead over second place in the Northeast Division of the NE10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Penmen struck first with an RBI single by Kennedy in the second inning. SNHU scored four runs in the third inning fueled by back-to-back home runs by Mulcay and Caraher. The Penmen pushed across another four runs on just three hits and also took advantage of a pair of Raven errors. FPU, trailing 9-0, responded with a five-run inning in the home half of the fourth inning. The Ravens inning was powered by a two-run homer by Gebauer and a three-run home run by Randy Flores.
  • SNHU continued to pour it on with a 7-run top of the fifth inning. Caraher had a two-run single, John Chacho (Seymoure, Conn.) singled home a run, while Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.) singled to center driving home two.
  • The Ravens scored a single run in the fifth, while SNHU added a single run in the sixth and three in the seventh to close out the offensive attack.
NOTES
  • The 20 runs scored matched a season high. The Penmen also scored 20 on March 11 against Nyack.
  • The Penmen are ranked 11th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll and still sits atop the NCBWA East Region Poll as well as the NCAA East Regional Poll.
  • The Penmen improve to 31-21 against the Ravens, winning six of the last seven including a 16-4 mark since 2018. 
UP NEXT 
  • SNHU conclude the regular season May 6-7 against NE10 foe Assumption University. The teams will play doubleheaders each day starting at 12 p.m. The games will be played at Delta Dental Stadium, the home of the NH Fisher Cats the double A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Admission is free both days.
