Senior Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) clinched the match with a singles win at No. 1, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team opened the 2022-23 season with an 8-1 triumph over Nichols College on Thursday at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Hubickova defeated Antonia Carrero, 6-2, 6-3, and also teamed with graduate student Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) for a 6-1 win against Kelley Carlin and Jordan Knowles at No. 2 doubles.
- Freshman Alina Kupfer (Munich, Germany) won her college debut, downing Charis Vogler, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. She and graduate student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) were 6-2 winners over Carrero and Sophia Leonardi at No. 1 doubles.
- Etienne also did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 No. 3 singles victory against Leonardi.
- Weindl was a 6-1, 6-2 victor against Johanna Schroeder at No. 4 singles.
- Junior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win against Knowles at No. 5 singles.
- Sophomore Guntra Upeniece (Riga, Latvia) put the finishing touches on the victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Camila Magrin at No. 6 singles.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire wins its season opener for the fourth straight year.
- This was the first all-time meeting between the two teams.
