Sam Kodi (Manchester, N.H.) added a career-high 15, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team could not overcome a tough-shooting second half in Wednesday night's 79-67 loss to cross-town rival Saint Anselm College at the Stan Spirou Field House.

KEY MOMENTS
- The game was tied just over a minute-and-a-half in when Southern New Hampshire ripped off a 14-2 run over the following two minutes to open an 18-6 advantage with 16:30 remaining in the opening half. Becht drilled three straight 3-pointers during the stretch, with Okwuosa capping the run with a triple of his own.
- Saint Anselm had whittled the deficit to eight at 25-17 at the midway point of the frame when another trey from Becht triggered an 8-0 rush that gave the Penmen their largest lead of the night at 33-17 with 7:56 to go. Kodi scored the other five points during the run.
- After chipping away and lowering its halftime deficit to 45-36, Saint Anselm opened the second half with five straight points to make it a four-point game less than two-and-a-half minutes in.
- The Hawks used a 22-6 burst later in the stanza to go in front, 67-57, with 5:50 left. The Penmen would counter with six straight to again make it a four-point game with 4:28 on the clock, but that was as close as they would get, as eight-in-a-row from the visitors ran the lead to 12 at 75-63 with just under two minutes to go.

- Graduate student Ryan Layman (Wrentham, Mass.) posted six points (2-3 FG, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three steals and a block.
- Sophomore Jordan Brathwaite (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied four points (2-10 FG), eight boards and four assists.
- Saint Anselm outshot SNHU, 50.8 percent (30-59) to 41.5 percent (27-65), including 57.1 percent (16-28) to 25.8 percent (8-31) in the second half and 41.7 percent (10-24) to 26.9 percent (7-26) from long distance, overall.
- The Hawks also shot it better from the line, 90 percent (9-10) to 85.7 percent (6-7).
- The Penmen narrowly won the glass (35-33) and scored more points off turnovers (13-11), while the Hawks scored more second chance points (10-8) and turned in a more impressive assist-to-turnover ratio (21/7-10/8). Paint scoring was even at 32-all.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has its six-game winning streak halted, but has still won seven of its last 11.
- Saint Anselm leads the all-time series with SNHU, 40-36, having won nine of the last 11 meetings, including seven of eight. The Hawks have also won five of six at SNHU, dating back to the 2017 NE10 Championship title game March 4, 2017.
- Kodi scored 19 points over his first 12 collegiate games (1.6 ppg), but has now scored 22 over this last two contests (11.0 ppg).
