Upset-Minded Field Hockey Falls To First Place Assumption

Elle Murray scored her second goal of the game with 2:06 remaining as first-place Assumption University held off upset-minded SNHU field hockey 3-2 on Wednesday night on Larkin Field.

KEY MOMENTS
 
  • Assumption converted off one of two first-half penalty corners to take a 1-0 lead at 19:24.  Mia Salah scored the goal off a shot attempt by Chloe Kaeller.
  • The Penmen generated seven shots, including five on goal in the second quarter, but trailed 1-0 at the break.
  • SNHU tied the game at 1-1 just 3:12 into the second half  when Wiersma sent a pass over to the right side where Christis found the cage with her slap shot.
  • The Greyhounds converted another penalty corner to go back up 2-1 a few minutes later on the first of Murray's goals.
  • van de Poll made it 2-2 early in the fourth quarter when she was able to score off a loose ball in front of the Assumption net.
  • Murray scored the game-winner in the closing moments after the Greyhounds had successfully killed off the only green card of the contest.
  • The Penmen had one final penalty corner in the last minute, but were denied inside by Assumption goalie Paige Gillette.

  • The Penmen outshot the Greyhounds 15-10, including 11-4 on goal.
  • SNHU had a 7-4 advantage on penalty corners.
NOTES
  • van de Poll leads the Penmen with 23 points on 11 goals and 1 assist.
  • Christis followed up her hat trick on Saturday vs. Molloy with her fourth goal of the season.
  • Sophomore Emma Peeters (Wageningen, Netherlands) made one save.
  • The two goals scored by the Penmen are the most allowed in a game by Assumption since September 14.
  • The Greyhounds had won 3-1 over the Penmen on September 6 in Worcester in a non-conference game. 
  • Assumption's overall lead in the all-time series is now 10-2.
  • This was just the second home loss for the Penmen in 2023.  They had won five straight at home since losing the opener to Bloomsburg.
