SNHU junior Carter Sylvester (Northwood, N.H.) earned Second-Team All-Conference with a 12th-place run at Sunday's Northeast-10 Cross Country Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. Sylvester and the Penmen finished 6th overall.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Sylvester ran the 8k course in 25:56.9.
- Freshman Eric Sekyaya (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Zak Laverdiere (Seekonk, Mass.) finished together in 33rd and 34th.
- Sekyaya turned in the third best time for a freshman with 27:00.8. Laverdiere ran 27:05.8.
- Senior Kody Gagnon (Tolland, Conn.) wound up 42nd in 27:16.4.
- Sophomore Dillon Labonte (Lee, N.H.) contributed with a 27:41.7, good for 57th.
NOTES
- Sylvester had finished 13th last year when the Penmen wound up in 4th place.
- Southern Connecticut State (31) completed a sweep of the Championships with a win in the men's race. Franklin Pierce University (70), Adelphi University (133), Bentley University (136), and Assumption (142) finished ahead of the Penmen.
- Wondu Summa of Franklin Pierce turned the tables on Southern Connecticut's Jonathan Volpe, winning this year with a 25:04.90. Volpe best out Summa last year when the race was run in Vermont.
- SNHU finished ahead of ninth-place Saint Anselm to earn two Queen City Cup points.
- Also competing for the SNHU men were freshman Brett Trainor (North Chelmsford, Mass.) in 27:57.7, and freshman Ryan Burgher (Brookline, N.H.) in 30:35.8.
