Freshman Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) posted a win at No. 4 singles to send the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team to a 6-1 victory against Assumption University on Wednesday at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Lyekontseva defeated Jill Schoeneich, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4 singles to clinch the match.
- Sophomore Alina Kupfer (Baldham, Germany) breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against Marie Knispel and also combined with graduate student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) for a 6-2 win over Knispel and Jette Weigelt at No. 1 doubles.
- Weindl pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Caroline Mader at No. 2 singles.
- Freshman Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) made quick work of Beren Vapur, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. Abadzic also teamed with senior Eleonora Guglielmetti (Novara, Italy) for a 6-2 win against Mader and Schoeneich that clinched the doubles point at No. 2.
- Freshman Nadia Alden (Edmond, Okla.) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner against Carola Schaudinn at No. 6 singles.
NOTES
- The Penmen lead the all-time series with Assumption, 18-5, and have now won five-in-a-row versus the Greyhounds. It is SNHU's 10th straight win at home versus the Greyhounds, who last defeated the Penmen on their home court April 19, 2004 (8-1).
