Freshman Angela Mateos (Seville, Spain) registered a career-best seven kills on the final day of the regular season, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Nolan Gymnasium.

  • Mateos – Career-high 7 kills (.545), 2 blocks
  • Graduate student Dai Thawnghmung (Lowell, Mass.) – 9 kills (.375), 8 digs, 1 block
  • Junior Carmen Bernardis (Trieste, Italy) – 7 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks
  • Junior Deanne Wilson (Buffalo, N.Y.) – 14 digs, 2 aces
KEY MOMENTS
  • Saint Rose scored the first seven points of the match and led, 10-3, but Southern New Hampshire roared back with a 12-5 run that tied the match at 15-all. Six different Penmen tallied a kill during the stretch, including Mateos and Thawnghmung, who each had two. With the opening set tied, 19-19, the Golden Knights ripped off six of the next eight points to go up, 1-0, in the match.
  • SNHU trailed, 24-22, in the middle stanza, but kills from sophomore Alexandra Friebolin (Plant City, Fla.) and freshman Quinlynn Parish (Faribault, Minn.) pulled the Penmen even. The match was tied at 25, 26 and 27, before a pair of Saint Rose kills gave the hosts a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Penmen held a 16-15 edge in the third set, but Saint Rose rattle off 10-in-a-row to take the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Set scores were 25-21, 29-27, 25-16.
  • Parish added five kills.
  • Friebolin posted four kills and a pair of blocks.
  • Sophomore Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) tallied 19 assists, two kills, two aces and three digs.
  • Freshman Katalin Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary) added 13 assists and a pair of digs.
  • Grad student Alessandra Peli (Brescia, Italy) recorded two kills, an ace and three blocks.
  • Senior Claire Wohlleber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) submitted a pair of kills.
  • Junior Eyleen Dias (Plymouth, Mass.) chipped in five digs.
  • Saint Rose outhit SNHU in the final two sets, as well as .206-.0145, overall.
  • The Golden Knights doubled up the Penmen in aces, 10-5, while blocks were even at 5-5.
NOTES
  • After winning seven of nine and five of six, Southern New Hampshire has dropped two-in-a-row to close the regular season.
  • SNHU had already earned the No. 5 seed for the NE10 Championship prior to the match. It will travel to fourth-seeded American International College on Nov. 14 (7 p.m.) for a quarterfinal match.
  • Saint Rose leads the all-time series, 16-8, but the win snaps a five-match skid for the Golden Knights against the Penmen. SNHU had also won two straight in Albany, with Saint Rose's previous win in the series coming Oct. 22, 2016 at home (3-2).

  • The fifth-seeded Penmen travel to fourth-seeded American Int'l for an NE10 Championship quarterfinal match Tuesday, Nov. 14 (7 p.m.).
