Men's Basketball Extends Winning Streak to Four with 82-76 Victory at Unbeaten Post

Graduate student Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) scored 16 points to lead five scorers in double figures, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team won its fourth straight game with an 82-76 victory against Post University on Sunday at the Drubner Center.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire led by one a little less than eight minutes into the contest when a 7-0 run – capped by a 3-pointer from senior Noah Kamba (Lynn, Mass.) – pushed the Penmen lead to 20-12 at the 11:00 mark. SNHU took its largest lead of the half at 27-17 on a pair of Brathwaite free throws with 8:09 to go, but a 15-4 burst from Post flipped it in front, 32-31, with 3:35 on the clock. The score was tied before Becht closed the first-half scoring with a triple that sent the visitors to the locker room with a 42-39 lead.
  • The game was even, 44-44, less than two minutes into the second half when a Rivera 3 sparked a 12-2 blitz, which including a pair of Becht 3-pointers and a trifecta from Henderson, to open a 56-46 lead with 15:50 remaining. Yet another Becht triple gave SNHU its largest lead of the afternoon at 61-50 with 14:18 to play. Post would get as close as three with 9:31 left, but the Penmen again ran their advantage back to 11 at 74-63 with 4:13 to go and the Eagles would not get closer than six.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Junior Paul Greene (Freeport, Bahamas) posted eight points (2-6 FG, 5-4 FT) and six rebounds.
  • Kamba netted six points (2-5 FG, 2-4 3-FG) and dished three assists.
  • Senior Preston Santos (Providence, R.I.) chipped in four points points (2-4 FG) and six boards.
  • Southern New Hampshire outshot Post, 43.1 percent (28-65) to 38.2 percent (26-68), including 35.5 percent (11-31) to 26.3 percent (5-19) from behind the arc. The Penmen were also better at the line, 83.3 percent (15-18) to 79.2 percent (19-24).
  • The Penmen scored more fast break points (24-15), while the Eagles won the glass (44-37), scored more points off turnovers (9-7) and more second chance points (11-6), received more scoring from their bench (25-18) and turned in a slightly better assist-to-turnover ratio (11/8-12/9). Points in the paint were even (30-30).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire is 4-1 for the first time since 2021-22.
  • Post, which is receiving votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Coaches Poll and CBB Nation Division II Poll, suffers its first loss after beginning the season 5-0.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series, 12-2, including 3-1 at Post. The Penmen have won three-in-a-row on the road versus the Eagles and have not lost there since Feb. 9, 2000 (101-88).

  • The Penmen are back in action Wednesday, Nov. 29 (7:30 p.m.) when they play host to Saint Michael's College at the Stan Spirou Field House in a contest that will be broadcast on WGIR 610-AM and Fox Sports 930-AM.
