First-Place Adelphi Drops Women's Volleyball in Three Sets

The Penmen honored their seven seniors prior to the match

Senior Claire Wohlleber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) recorded a team-high six kills on Senior Day, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team fell to Adelphi University, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House.

  • Thawnghmung – 6 kills (.375), 1 ace, 4 digs, 3 blocks
  • Grad student Alessandra Peli (Brescia, Italy) – 5 kills, 1 dig, 2 blocks
KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire trailed, 9-7, in the opening set when Adelphi scored 13 of the next 18 points to open up a 22-12 advantage. The Penmen would get no closer than eight.
  • The Panthers held a 20-18 edge in the second set when they ripped off five straight to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Adelphi led 5-4 in the final frame and rattled off 20 of the next 25 points to end the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Set scores were 25-16, 25-18, 25-9.
  • Redshirt-senior Ana Pimenta (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) tallied four kills, six digs and three blocks.
  • Graduate student Dai Thawnghmung (Lowell, Mass.) posted four kills, six digs and a block.
  • Freshman Jaelyn Miles (Manchester, N.H.) chipped in three kills.
  • Junior Chiara Di Valerio (Terni, Italy) added a pair of kills, an ace and three digs.
  • Sophomore Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) handed out 20 assists, to go with five digs and a block.
  • Junior Deanne Wilson (Buffalo, N.Y.) collected eight digs.
  • Adelphi outhit SNHU in all three sets, as well as .398-.079, overall.
  • The Panthers held a 5-4 edge in aces, while blocks were even at 5-5.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire had won seven of its last nine matches, including five of six.
  • SNHU remains in fifth place in the NE10 standings and is locked in as the No. 5 seed for the NE10 Championship.
  • Adelphi leads the all-time series with the Penmen, 16-2, and has captured five of the last six. The win for the Panthers avenges last season's five-set loss to SNHU in the NCAA East Regional Championship match. Adelphi moves to 8-0 all-time at SNHU.
  • Wohlleber, Pimenta, Thawnghmung, Di Valerio, juniors Carmen Bernardis (Trieste, Italy) and Eyleen Dias (Plymouth, Mass.), and senior Ava Czyzewski (Windermere, Fla.) were honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the match.

  • The Penmen close the regular season Saturday, Nov. 11 (1 p.m.) when they take on the College of Saint Rose.
