Power-Play Goals Rally Penmen to 2-2 tie with Saint Anselm

Score:  Southern New Hampshire University 2, Saint Anselm College 2 (OT)

SNHU scored a pair of third period power-play goals to tie Saint Anselm College 2-2 on Friday night at The Ice Den in Hooksett, N.H.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS  
KEY MOMENTS
  • Saint Anselm broke a scoreless tie at 7:13 of the second period when Will Van Der Veen found an open Richie Colarusso for a slap shot that made it 1-0.
  • The Hawks scored again at 17:39 of the second period on a goal by Alec Grace.
  • SNHU scored on the power-play at 2:55 of the third period when Twardosky knocked the puck into the net off passes from Watson and Pomposelli.
  • Watson tied the game at 2-2 with a slap shot that came about a half minute into a five minute major call against the Hawks.
  • Both teams generated opportunities in the extra five minute session without scoring thanks to some terrific work in net by Guerin for the Penmen and by Cam Carroll for Saint Anselm.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen outshot the Hawks 36-28 for the game.
  • SNHU went 2-for-5 on the power-play while holding the Hawks to 0-for-3.
NOTES
  • This was the first of four meetings between SNHU and Saint Anselm with Queen City Cup points awarded based on the regular season series.
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series 41-12-2.   The other tie in the series was 11/30/02.
  • The Penmen have played four games at home this season – all have gone into overtime.
  • After Twardosky scored his goal, fans were encouraged to throw Teddy Bears onto the ice.  They have been collected and will be donated to the Manchester Police Athletic League and Jamie's Joy.
  • Watson moves into a tie for the team lead with his fourth goal.  Twardosky has two career goals, both coming this season.
  • SNHU entered the game 1-for-33 on the season on the power play.  They have not allowed a power-play goal in the last four games.
