Ice Hockey Falls 4-3 To Hawks

Penmen Rally, Can't Catch Saint Anselm Saturday

Ice hockey dropped a hard-fought 4-3 battle to Saint Anselm College Saturday at The Ice Den in Hooksett.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
  • Chase Reynolds scored a power-play goal at 2:11 of the second period to put the Hawks in front.
  • Saint Anselm scored again at 6:15 on a goal by Will Van Der Veen.
  • At 12:09 of the second period, the Penmen scored for the first time.  Pomposelli buried a slap shot off a pass from sophomore Jim Minnig (Auburn, Pa.).
  • The Hawks quickly made it 3-1 when Alec Grace scored.
  • SNHU would cut the lead to 3-2 on a goal by Devlin at 7:53 of the final period.  Sophomore Alex Muthersbaugh (Gilford, N.H.) cut off a Hawk shot and fed Devlin, who raced down the left side of the ice and slipped one past Cam Carroll.
  • The Hawks opened a two-goal lead when Tommy Schwartz scored at 11:10.
  • The Penmen would make it 4-3 with just over five minutes left on a goal by Twardosky.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Saint Anselm had a 40-37 shot advantage on the Penmen.
  • The Hawks were 1-for-2 on the power play while the Penmen were 0-for-3.
  • Freshman Sean Guerin (Chicago, Ill.) made 36 saves for SNHU.
NOTES
  • This was the second of four meetings between SNHU and Saint Anselm with Queen City Cup points awarded based on the regular season series.
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series 42-12-2.   The Hawks 4-1-1 over the last six meetings.
  • Twardosky scored in both games for the Penmen, giving him three career goals.

  • SNHU will play two Northeast-10 games at Post University next Friday and Saturday. 
  • The next home game for the Penmen will be on Wednesday, Jan. 10 against SUNY/Potsdam at 7:40 p.m.
