Minnig Scores Twice as Penmen Pull Away From Post 6-1

Sophomore Jim Minnig (Auburn, Pa.) scored twice as SNHU hockey pulled away from Post University 6-1 Friday in Northeast-10 action in Shelton, Conn.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
 
  • The Penmen took a 1-0 lead at 12:40 of the first period on the first Minnig goal.
  • Sophomore Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) sent a cross-ice pass to Minnig for a slapshot that found the net.  Watson also earned an assist on the play.
  • With just over a minute to play in the period, Pomposelli scored a power-play goal to make it 2-0.  Watson and freshman Bryan McLachlan (San Pedro, Calif.) had assists.
  • Minnig scored again 2:14 into the second period with a slap shot just inside the blue line after freshman Austin Hirschberger (Harwich, Mass.) battled to free the puck off the boards.
  • The Eagles would cut the lead to 3-1 on a goal by Ryan O'Connell.
  • Just 21 seconds later, Aldrich made it 4-1 Penmen, converting off a Post turnover for his first goal of the season.
  • The Penmen added one more goal before the end of the period when Dallaire scored his first career goal with a steal and then a back-handed shot to make it 5-1.
  • Marchant's goal, also the first of his career, came off a rebound with an assist to Senior Derek Flynn (Dracut, Mass.)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen had 38 shots for the contest and the Eagles had 28.
  • The Penmen were 1-for-6 on the power play.  Post was 0-for-6.
  • SNHU had a 37-29 edge on face-offs won.
NOTES
  • Minnig scored his first two goals of the season. 
  • Pomposelli is the team leader with five goals and is tied with Watson for the team lead with nine points.
  • Berke improved to 2-2 in his fourth career start in net.
  • SNHU has a 15-5 edge in the all-time series with Post.

  • SNHU and Post will meet again on Saturday at 1:00 p.m in Connecticut, the final game before a four-week break.
