Ice Hockey Reaches Break at .500 after 3-1 win at Post

Kurt Watson Scores Goal, Adds Assist for Penmen Saturday

Sophomore Kurt Watson (London, Ont.) scored a goal and added an assist, and freshman Sean Guerin (Chicago, Ill.) made 32 saves as SNHU finished off a sweep at Post University 3-1 on Saturday.

KEY MOMENTS
  • With a two-man advantage, the Penmen scored consecutive power-play goals midway through the first period for a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish.
  • Gray's goal came on a rebound of a Watson shot at 11:05 of the first period.  Freshman Bryan McLachlan (San Pedro, Calif.) was also awarded an assist.
  • Watson would make it 2-0 at 11:24 of the first period with his slap shot with assists to sophomore Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) and sophomore Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.).
  • Post's Jake Aloi made it 2-1 with a tip in the slot at 2:24 of the third period to cut the SNHU lead to 2-1.
  • Rodriguez scored an empty net,  short-handed goal at 18:42 to give the Penmen a little breathing room.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Post had a 33-27 shot advantage for the contest.
  • The Penmen were 2-for-10 on the power play and Post was 0-for-8.
  • SNHU had a 41-27 edge on face-offs  - Gray won 10 of 11 for the Penmen.
NOTES
  • With his two points, Watson has the team lead with 11.
  • Guerin earned his third win and lowered his goals-against average to 2.53.
  • SNHU has a 16-5 edge in the all-time series with Post.
  • The teams are also scheduled for two games at The Ice Den in Hooksett January 19-20.
UP NEXT
  • The game for the Penmen will be on January 6 in the Boston Landing Tournament in Brighton, Mass.  The Penmen will meet Nichols College at 4:40 p.m. in the first round.
  • The next home contest will be on Wednesday, Jan. 10 against SUNY/Potsdam at 7:40 p.m.
