George Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals as SNHU turned back Franklin Pierce 8-4 in the opener of a weekend set Friday at The Ice Den.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Penmen played from the lead throughout the contest, scoring three first-period goals in a span of 3:10. Graduate student Travis Quigley (North Babylon, N.Y.) had the first goal.
- Thurston then added a pair of goals, tallying off a pass from Gray at 7:28. His second goal came on a tip of a slap shot by sophomore Ethan Rodriguez (Sioux City, Iowa) at 10:07.
- The teams combined for five goals in the second period with Lynch taking a perfect feed from Amante to answer the first Raven goal of the night.
- Amante's power-play goal on a rebound of a shot by Gray made it 5-2.
- Franklin Pierce scored late in the second and cut the lead to 5-4 at 39 seconds of the final period on a goal by Trevor Lawler.
- A goal by graduate student Dominic DiMambro (Troy, Mich.) off a steal of a goalie clear attempt made it 6-4.
- Ray and Lynch finished up the scoring with goals less than three minutes apart midway through the final stanza.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Penmen outshot the Ravens 49-30.
- SNHU went 2-for-5 on the power play and Franklin Pierce was 1-for-5.
- Minnig's two assists were his first career points.
- Freshman Tyler Murray (Barre, Vt.) also picked up his first career point with an assist on the opening goal.
- Thurston leads the Penmen with 11 goals on the season and 44 for his career. His 20 points (11 goals, 9 assists) also lead the Penmen.
- Loisel made his second of the season in net, picking up his first win.
NOTES
- The eight goals are a season-high for the Penmen.
- SNHU wins the season series with Franklin Pierce for a fifth straight season.
- The Penmen lead the all-time series 35-17-9.
- SNHU moves into fourth place in the NE10 standings ahead of the Ravens, 20 points to 18, but Franklin Pierce has two games in hand.
