Graduate student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) did not drop a game at No. 4 singles, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team kicked off the spring with a 6-1 victory against Aquinas College on Monday evening at the USTA Tennis Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Weindl defeated Mimi Pacheco, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 single.
- Senior Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) breezed past Joska Volder, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
- Freshman Alina Kupfer (Munich, Germany) downed Sofia Gomez, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles to clinch the match.
- Grad student Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) outlasted Carlota Arzabe, 6-3, 1-6, 10-3, at No. 3 singles.
- Senior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner versus Alyssa Jack at No. 5.
- Senior Guntra Upeniece (Riga, Latvia) won by default at No. 6 singles.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire is 13-0 for the first time in program history.
- This was SNHU's first match since capturing the NE10 Championship back on Oct. 23.
- The teams played singles first because of thunderstorms in the area. Aquinas won both doubles matches.
- This was the first meeting between the two schools.
- Kupfer is now a perfect 12-0 at No. 2 singles.
