Men's Tennis Falls to Division I Fordham, 5-2

Sophomore Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) and junior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) both won their singles matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team closed its Florida trip with a 6-1 loss to Division I Fordham University on Thursday at the USTA National Campus.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Berling took down Quinn Fender at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
  • Den Hartog was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles against Nichola Kanazirev. He also teamed with junior Sam Goddard (Amherst, N.H.) to even doubles at 1-1 with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 versus Dhillon Virdee-Oakley and Sampras Rakotondrainibe.
  • Graduate student Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) endured a battle at No. 3 singles against Virdee-Oakley, eventually falling, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-7 (4-7).
  • Sophomore Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) also went three sets with Toi Kobayashi at No. 4 singles, dropping a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 0-6 decision.
  • Graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, The Netherlands) also suffered a three-set defeat to Giorgio Soemarno at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 5-7, 3-6.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has lost two straight twice in the same season for the first time since 2017-18.
  • This marked the first meeting between the two programs.

  • The Penmen are back in action Saturday, March 25 when they open NE10 play at Adelphi University.
  • SNHU is home Tuesday, March 28 at 3 p.m. when it plays host to Saint Michael's College at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
