Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, The Netherlands) clinched the match at No. 6 singles to help the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team squeak by NE10-unbeaten Le Moyne College, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Southern New Hampshire led, 3-1, when Ouwejan closed out his No. 6 singles match against Rodrigo Beires, winning, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Ouwejan also teamed with freshman Phillipp Roeder (Augsburg, Germany) for a 6-4 No. 3 doubles victory over Fabian Sjokvist and Ethan Miller.
- Sophomore Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) downed Peter Hatton at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5.. He and graduate student Fernando Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with a 7-5 win against Manuel Righi and Hatton.
- Torres took care of Miller, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3 singles.
NOTES
- Junior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) was edged, 6-7 (6-8), 5-7, by Righi at No. 2 singles.
- Sophomore Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) was outlasted at No. 4 singles by Kacper Piekarek, 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 (0-7).
- Roeder dropped a close match at No. 5 singles, falling to Alberto Diaz, 6-7 (4-7), 5-7).
- Le Moyne had won 21 consecutive NE10 matches, last losing April 14, 2019 against Merrimack College (4-3).
- SNHU leads the all-time series with Le Moyne, 16-5, and snaps a two-match skid against the Dolphins, winning for the first time since May 2, 2019 (4-2).
