INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team garnered the No. 4 seed in the NCAA East Region No. 1, which takes place May 1-2 at Wilmington (Del.) University, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Monday night when it unveiled its field of 48 teams.
The Penmen, who earn their seventh NCAA Championship tournament berth, will be making their first appearance since 2017 after winning their first NE10 title since 2012-13 in the fall to earn the automatic qualifier. SNHU is 14-3, overall, and went 9-0 in league play.
SNHU will take on the fourth-seeded University of the District of Columbia (11-6) on Monday, May 1 at noon. The winner will meet top-seeded Wilmington (17-3) on Tuesday, May 2 (12 p.m.).
The winner of Tuesday's match moves on to the Round of 16 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., on May 12-16. Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission will serve as hosts.
SNHU is 4-6 all-time in the NCAA postseason and is in search of its first trip to the Round of 16. The Penmen are 0-1 all-time against UDC, having lost in the second round to the Firebirds back in 2012 in Manchester. The teams have met one other time, with SNHU scoring an 8-1 regular-season home victory March 14, 2015.
