Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener and saved the nightcap. Junior
Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.) knocked in all three runs in SNHU's 1-0 and 2-0 doubleheader sweep of Saint Rose Monday in the home opener.
KEY MOMENTS -GAME 1
- McKechnie went the distance, allowing only a pair of third-inning singles enroute to the shutout. She pitched out of that two-on, one-out jam, retiring 14 of the final 15 batters.
- The Penmen scored in the fourth inning, loading the bases on a single by junior Alyssa DiMauro (Chester, N.H.), and walks to junior Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) and senior Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.). Ferrier singled to left field to make it 1-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
- McKechnie walked two and struck out a career-high nine batters.
- Freshman Jenna Plue took the loss for Saint Rose.
- DiMauro finished 2-for-3
- Freshman Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass) went 1-for-2 with a walk.
KEY MOMENTS -GAME 2
- The Penmen stranded seven runners through the first three innings despite not recording a hit.
- An infield single by freshman Gianna LaSpina (Bellmore, N.Y.) came with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Olivia Mason (Derry, N.H.) pinch-ran, and Feldman followed with a single. A bunt by senior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) moved the runners up and Ferrier singled to make it 2-0.
- After allowing a lead-off double in the top of the fifth, sophomore Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) yielded to McKechnie, who finished up for the save.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
- Feldman went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
- Hammond (W, 3-5) allowed three hits and walked two, striking out two.
- Bella Milazzo (L, 4-4) went the distance for the Golden Knights.
NOTES
- The Penmen are 20-10 all-time against Saint Rose, including wins in four straight.
- Ferrier entered the doubleheader with four career runs batted in. After coming through with the game-winning single in the opener, she was elevated to third in the line-up for the nightcap.
- DiMauro has the team lead with a .348 average with 23 hits in 66 at-bats in 22 games.
- Feldman, by going 3-for-6, is now hitting .333.
- The shutouts were the first of the season for the Penmen.
