Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.) hit a walk-off three-run homer to lift Southern New Hampshire to a 6-5 win over Saint Anselm and split Saturday's doubleheader. The home run capped a six-run seventh inning for the Penmen, who dropped the opener 8-0 to the Hawks.
KEY MOMENTS -GAME 1
- Saint Anselm's Haile Hicks earned top honors with a five-inning no-hitter.
- Hicks walked two batters, and struck out ten.
- A pair of bases loaded walks in the top of the first inning gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
- Ava Caputo hit a grand slam in the third, and Kyle Fitzpatrick singled in another run for a 7-0 lead.
- A single by Sam Wiberg made it 8-0 in the top of the fifth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
- Junior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) went the distance, allowing eight hits and eight runs (six earned). She walked six and struck out five.
- Caputo's home run was her second of the season.
KEY MOMENTS -GAME 2
- Saint Anselm scored two runs in the top of the first on a single by Kylie Fitzpatrick and a double by Wiberg.
- A single by Caputo in the top of the second inning gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead, which they extended to 5-0 in the fifth.
- The Penmen, who had been held off the board by Saint Anselm starter Sophia DiPippo, started the seventh with a single by junior Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.). She was erased on a fielders choice by senior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.).
- Singles by junior Alyssa DiMauro (Chester, N.H.) and junior Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) loaded the bases.
- Sophomore Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) singled to make it 5-1.
- Junior Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) ripped a double down the left field line off Hicks, who came on in relief.
- After freshman Gianna LaSpina (Bellmore, N.Y.) popped out, Gray launched her first home run of the season to give the Penmen the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
- The Hawks held the Penmen without a hit in the second game until Resetar singled in the bottom of the fourth. SNHU would add ten hits over the final four innings.
- Sophomore Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) started the second game, lasting two innings.
- Sophomore Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned the win in relief. She went the final five innings, allowing eight hits and two runs (both unearned).
- Resetar had her ninth multi-hit game of the season.
NOTES
- The Penmen split the season doubleheader with Saint Anselm for a second consecutive season, and lead the all-tie series 48-47.
- SNHU finishes the busy week with four wins in the six games, and sit at 5-5 in NE10 play.
- The Penmen were no-hit for the second time this season in the first game.
