Junior Carmen Bernardis (Trieste, Italy) notched 10 kills, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team returned to action after a nine-day layoff and suffered a 3-1 non-conference loss to Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday night at the FPU Fieldhouse.

KEY MOMENTS
- Southern New Hampshire held an 18-13 lead in the opening set when four Franklin Pierce errors and a Parish kill made up a 5-0 run that stretched the margin to an even 10 at 23-13. The Ravens would tally three of the next four points before another Parish kill put SNHU up, 1-0, in the match.
- The second set was tied, 5-5, when an 8-1 rush from the Ravens put them in front, 13-6, and the Penmen would never get closer than three the rest of the way.
- SNHU clung to a 23-22 lead in a tightly-contested third set, but Franklin Pierce ripped off three straight kills, including a pair from Annaka Lindstrom, to steal the set and go up, 2-1, in the match.
- In the fourth, FPU again broke a 5-5 tie with a 5-0 spurt to go up, 10-5. The lead was still five later on at 18-13, when a 7-2 run for the Ravens gave them the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Set scores were 16-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-15.
- Graduate student Alessandra Peli (Brescia, Italy) tallied four kills (.375), two aces and a block.
- Sophomore Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.) registered 11 assists, an ace and three digs.
- Graduate student Dai Thawnghmung (Lowell, Mass.) posted 11 digs.
- Junior Deanne Wilson (Buffalo, N.Y.) collected seven digs.
- FPU outhit SNHU in the final three sets, as well as .210-.130, overall.
- The Ravens held an advantage in blocks (9-4), while the Penmen returned the favor in aces (10-9).
NOTES
- After beginning the season 5-1, Southern New Hampshire has lost three straight.
- Franklin Pierce defeats SNHU at home for the first time since Nov. 12, 2019 (3-0), but the Penmen have won four of the last six meetings, dating back to 2017.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen are back in action Saturday, Sept. 23 (2 p.m.) when they take on Bentley University.
- SNHU will turn around three days later and play host to Bentley on Tuesday, Sept. 26 (7 p.m.) at the Stan Spirou Field House.
