Junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) notched a three-set victory at No. 3 singles to clinch the match, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team recorded a 6-1 victory against Saint Michael's College on Wednesday at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Nadeau pulled out a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Sergio Barroso at No. 1 singles. Nadeau also teamed with senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles against Julius van den Broek and Barroso.
  • Junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the top singles flight versus Jackson Moser. Berling and sophomore Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) combined for a 7-5 win at No. 2 against Mathis Billman and Tristian Du Plessis to clinch the doubles point.
  • Den Hartog downed Jack Li, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.
  • Vix was a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles.
  • Graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) won a tightly-contested fifth flight against Billman, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4). He and sophomore Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany) toppled Moser and Garrett Brooker, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire wins its season opener for the sixth straight year.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 20-5, and extends its winning streak against the Purple Knights to 17. The Penmen have also won 11-in-a-row at home. The last time SMC defeated SNHU was April 8, 2009 (5-4) in Manchester.

  • The Penmen return to action Friday (Sept. 22) at 1:30 p.m. when they play host to Adelphi University at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
