Sophomore Alina Kupfer (Baldham, Germany) and graduate student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) did not drop a game the entire match, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team shut out Saint Michael's College, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Kupfer blanked Emma Gredenhag, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles.
- Weindl was also a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles against Emma Tagliaferro.
- Kupfer and Weindl also combined for a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles versus Grace Saunders and Molly Gannon.
- Freshman Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) took down Saunders, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. She and classmate Nadya Lyekontseva (Kyiv, Ukraine) were victorious at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, against Gredenhag and Emma Posada to clinch the point.
- Lyekontseva topped Gannon, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
- Senior Eleonora Guglielmetti (Novara, Italy) was the fourth Penmen to win, 6-0, 6-0, doing so over Posada at No. 5 singles.
- Junior Katelyn Nichols (Manchester, N.H.) defeated Jaylin Bedard, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
- At No. 3 doubles, freshman Nadia Alden (Edmond, Okla.) and senior Maddie Blazejowski (Wethersfield, Conn., Conn.) doubled up Tagliaferro and Lyla Rouleau, 6-3.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire wins its season opener for the fifth straight year.
- The Penmen lead the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 20-8, and have now won 11 straight meetings. SNHU has also won 11-in-a-row at home against the Purple Knights.
