Sophomore Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands) tallied her team-leading third goal of the season, but SNHU field hockey lost 4-1 at #4 Saint Anselm in a non-conference game on Thursday at Grappone Stadium.

KEY MOMENTS
 
  • After a scoreless first period, the Hawks took control with two goals in the second quarter.
  • The Hawks scored the first goal off a penalty corner at 21:21 with Amanda Lewandowski redirecting a shot from Abby Breznyak into the upper corner of the cage.
  • Saint Anselm made it 2-0 less than two minutes later on a goal by Ava Rayfield.
  • The teams exchanged goals early in the third period.  Abbey Bevens scored for the Hawks, but the Penmen answered on a goal by Wiersma at 39:05.  
  • Crocombe was able to find Wiersma open on the right side for the marker to finish off the penalty corner to make it 3-1.
  • Saint Anselm added a final goal off a penalty corner with a little over six minutes to play when Bevens scored her second of the game, tipping in a shot from Maggie Burchill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Saint Anselm took the game's four shots in the first half and had a 3-0 advantage on penalty corners during the first thirty minutes.
  • For the game, the Hawks had 11 shots with seven on goal.  The Penmen had five shots, two on cage.
  • The Hawks had a 7-4 advantage on penalty corners.
  • Mackenzie McConnell picked up the win in goal for Saint Anselm.
NOTES
  • Wiersma leads the Penmen with 8 points (3 goals, 2 assists). 
  • This was the first of two meetings during the regular season with the Hawks.  The next meeting on October 4 will serve as the NE10 conference game between the rivals.
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series 16-0, and has an early 3-0 lead in the 2023-24 Queen City Cup standings.
  • The Hawks, ranked 4th in this week's NFHCA poll, had a six-game winning streak snapped in a conference loss at Franklin Pierce on Tuesday night.

  • The Penmen will finish a three-game road swing on Saturday (Sept. 30) at Mercy University.  Game time is 2:30 p.m.
  • SNHU will return to Larkin Field for an NE10 contest with Saint Anselm College on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:00 p.m.
