Penmen Win NE10 Field Hockey Match at Mercy 5-2

Five Different Players Score in Saturday Road Win

Records: SNHU 4-5 (3-2 NE10), Mercy 3-6 (2-3 NE10)

Five different players scored goals as SNHU field hockey won 5-2 at Mercy University on Saturday.  The Penmen improve to 3-2 in the Northeast-10.


STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen took a 1-0 lead at 6:40 as Hendricks set-up van de Poll for a backhanded goal.
  • After Mercy tied the game at 1-1, the Penmen responded with a goal by Wiersma that would prove to be the game-winner.
  • The play set up with by beautiful pass in from the wing by Christis at 12:12.
  • Christis assisted on the only goal in the second quarter.  Her shot rebounded in front to Lovejoy to make it 3-1.
  • Hendriks scored the Penmen goal in the third period, scoring off a penalty corner by junior Eliza Bates (Newport, N.H.).
  • Thibodeau's goal came off a penalty corner on the last play of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU had 27 shots for the contest, 17 on goal.  Mercy had 14 shots, 11 on goal.
  • The Penmen had a 14-9 advantage on penalty corners.
  • The five goals are a season-high for SNHU.
  • Lovejoy scored her first goal of the season, giving her five goals for her career.
NOTES
  • Wiersma leads the Penmen with 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists). 
  • The Penmen have won five consecutive games with Mercy and lead the series 5-1.
