Ice Hockey Falls 5-1 at First-Place Assumption

Sophomore Kurt Watson (London, Ont.) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, but SNHU fell 5-1 at Assumption University in NE10 action on Friday in Worcester, Mass.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
  • Assumption opened the scoring at 4:20 of the first period on a goal by Ronny Paragallo.
  • Off a face-off win by Gray in the Greyhound zone, Pomposelli fed Gray in front of the net.  The pass to Watson was perfect as he buried his shot to tie the game at 1-1 at 12:33 of the first period.
  • The Greyhounds took control of the game with a pair of goals 43 seconds apart late in the period to make it 3-1. 
  • Assumption's Jonathan Surrette scored a power-play goal at 5:03 of the second period to put Assumption up 4-1.
  • Nathan Palumbo scored for the Greyhounds at 8:04 of the final period for the game's final goal.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Assumption outshot the Penmen 46-35 for the game.
  • Freshman Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) started in net for the Penmen before giving way to junior Cam Bernard (Bedford, N.H.) midway through the third period.  For Bernard, it was his first action of the season.
  • The Penmen failed to convert on nine power-play opportunities while the Greyhounds were 1-for-5 on the night. 
NOTES
  • This was the first of four meetings with the Greyhounds, who lead the NE10.
  • The Penmen still hold a 42-39-5 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Watson (6G/6A) and Pomposelli (5G/7A) share the team lead with 12 points.
  • Assumption's Paragallo leads the NE10 with 15 goals this season.  Surrette is second in the league with 14 goals.

  • The Penmen will meet Assumption again on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Worcester Ice Center.
  • The next home games will be January 19-20 at The Ice Den against NE10 rival Post University.  Game time Friday is 7:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
