Penmen Lead Wire-To-Wire in 59-47 Win at Adelphi

Graduate student Adriana Timberlake (Braintree, Mass.) scored 21 points to help lead the Penmen to a wire-to-wire 59-47 win at Adelphi University Wednesday night.

  • Timberlake – 21 points (7-16 FG, 3-7 3-FG, 4-4 FT), 6 rebounds, 2 steals
  • Sophomore Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) – 10 points (5-17 FG), 11 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists
  • Senior Jess Knight (Hanover, Mass.) – 10 points (4-10 FG, 2-3 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 block
  • Graduate student Macy Spinks (Luton, United Kingdom) – 9 points (3-5 FG, 3-5 3-FG), 5 assists, 2 rebounds
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen dominated the first quarter, holding the Panthers to just two free throws, opening a 17-2 lead. 
  • SNHU held the Panthers scoreless over the final two minutes of the first half. A three-pointer by Spinks and a layup by junior Megan Deans (Winterport, Maine) gave the Penmen a 29-17 lead at the break.
  • A Timberlake three-pointer with 6:48 left in the third quarter gave SNHU it's largest lead at 39-19.
  • Adelphi's Carmen Kweti hit a lay-up with 5:12 left to bring the Panthers to within 50-43, but they could not get any closer in the fourth quarter.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Junior Sydnie DeVries (Monson, Mass.) pulled down 10 rebounds and added four points.
  • SNHU finished the game 23-61 (37.7%) and 6-19 (31.6%) from three-point range.  
  • Adelphi was 16-65 (24.6%) and 3-11 (27.3%) from downtown.
  • The Penmen hit 7-9 (77.8%) from the line – Adelphi was 12-15 (80.0%).
  • SNHU dominated the boards 59-33, but turned the ball over 26 times to 12 for Adelphi.
  • SNHU had a 30-22 edge on points in the paint.
  • Gordon's double-double was her fourth of the season, and third in the last five games.
  • Knight has scored in double figures in nine of ten games this season.
  • Rolanda Robinson of Adelphi led all scorers with 23 points.
NOTES
  • SNHU takes a 9-8 lead in the all-time series with Adelphi with wins in the last three contests.
  • SNHU is now 50-18 (.735) since the start of the 2021-22 season.
  • Timberlake continues to climb the all-time scoring list, now at 1287 points.  That ranks seventh all-time.  Next up on the list is Casey Balzano (1983-87) with 1304 points.
  • The Penmen maintain a share of the NE10 lead (5-1) with Bentley University and the College of Saint Rose.

  • The next game for SNHU is Saturday (Jan. 6) at Pace University.  Game time is 1:30 p.m.
  • The Penmen will be back at the Stan Spirou Field House next Wednesday (Jan. 10) to play American International College at 5:30 p.m.
