#13 Women's Soccer Slows New Haven, 2-0

Penmen match third-longest unbeaten streak in program history

Junior Georgia Greene (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and graduate student Alexsis Weiser (Long Beach, Calif.) each scored second-half goals to send the 13th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the University of New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Ouellette Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern New Hampshire had the best opportunity of the opening half when sophomore Kaylee Castaño (Mission, Texas) ripped a shot from the middle of the box that looked headed for the back of the net, but a New Haven defender kept it out.
  • After the teams played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes, SNHU broke through just 2:24 into the second half when Noon's cross from the right flank into the left side of the box was volleyed in low by Greene.
  • The Penmen added insurance late in the 74th minute when they took advantage of a foul in the box, with Weiser driving home the penalty kick to make it 2-0.

  • New Haven 'keeper Caitlin Daley stopped eight of 10 shots.
  • SNHU outshot New Haven, 24-4, including 11-4 in shots on goal.
  • SNHU also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked No. 13 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, is unbeaten through 13 contests for the first time since 2021, when it started 12-0-1, matching the third-longest unbeaten streak in program history.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with New Haven, 16-5-5. The Penmen have won seven of the last eight against the Chargers and remain unbeaten in the last 10 meetings (7-0-3). SNHU also extends its home unbeaten streak against UNH to five (3-0-2). New Haven's last win in the series came Nov. 2, 2013 in Manchester (2-0).
  • Keith's shutout is her 10th of the season and 17th of her career, which ties her for fifth in the program's all-time record book with Paige Salmon (2015-17).
  • Noon's sixth assist of the season tied her for the NE10 lead.
  • Greene's goal is her second of the year and eighth of her career.
  • Weiser tally is her first of the season and 13th of her career.
  • The Penmen are now 63-24-22 (.679) over their last 109 matches dating back to the start of the 2017 campaign.
  • SNHU is 41-7-10 (.793) at home since the end of the 2016 season, including 32-7-8 (.766) at Ouellette Stadium.
