Christis Scores Twice As #4 SNHU Field Hockey Tops Southern Connecticut 2-0

Senior Annemartine Christis ('s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands) scored twice in the third period to lift #4 SNHU field hockey to a 2-0 win at Southern Connecticut State on Saturday night.

  • Junior Anne Wiersma (Veldhoven, Netherlands) – 2 assists
  • Junior Emma Peeters (Wageningen, Netherlands)  - 3 saves
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen had a 14-5 shot advantage in the first half but neither team scored in the first 30 minutes.
  • Christis gave the Penmen a 1-0 lead about halfway through the third quarter.  She inserted a penalty corner to Wiersma, who returned the pass to her for the goal.
  • Christis made it 2-0 on a reverse chip from Wiersma just 3:42 later.
  • Southern Connecticut had its best scoring opportunities in the third quarter, taking five penalty corners, and generating eight shots.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU had a 26-16 shot advantage including 17-4 on goal.
  • The Penmen had nine penalty corners, one more than the Owls.
  • Lyndsay Troisi made 15 saves for Southern Connecticut.
NOTES
  • SNHU improves to 8-2 all-time against the Owls including eight consecutive wins.
  • SNHU moved into a tie for fourth in Tuesday's NFHCA (Field Hockey Coaches) poll, the highest ranking in program history.
  • Christis leads NCAA Division II with her 23 goals, and she has 10 multi-goal games this season.
  • Wiersma leads the Penmen with 12 assists and her 16 points (2G, 12 A) rank second on the squad. 
  • Junior Emma Peeters (Wageningen, Netherlands) has allowed just two goals in her last eight starts (480 minutes) and her goals-against average is 0.84, second best in the nation.
