Ice Hockey Wins Opener 3-2 at Framingham State

Clear, Lynch, and Hirschberger Score for Penmen Saturday

Ice hockey opened the season with a 3-2 win at Framingham State University on Saturday night. 

 
STANDOUT PERFORMERS  KEY MOMENTS
 
  • The Penmen never trailed in the season opener.
  • Clear's power-play goal at 18:35 of the first period put the Penmen up 1-0.  He intercepted a pass off a face-off and fired a slap shot for the score.
  • SNHU moved back in front 2-1 with 3:35 to play in the second period.  Lynch won a face-off and passed back to senior Derek Flynn.  Flynn skated to the end line and fed Lynch the puck for the goal.
  • The Rams made it 2-2 on a goal by Ashton Collazo just 3:28 into the third period.
  • The game-winner was scored by Hirschberger after a battle in the corner was won by junior Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.) and Hirschberger shot the loose puck into the net.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Despite being outshot 17-4 in the first period, the Rams finished the game with a 36-31 shot advantage.
  • The Penmen were 1-for-6 on the power-play and Framingham State finished 0-for-3. 
NOTES
  • SNHU improves to 27-14-1 all-time against Framingham State.  The Penmen are 9-1-1 over the past eleven meetings.
  • SNHU opened the season with the Rams for the second consecutive season.
  • The goal for Lynch was the 13th of his career.  Clear scored his third and Hirschberger notched his second in a Penmen uniform.
  • Berke improved his goalie record to 10-5.
UP NEXT
  • SNHU will return to the ice on Friday (Nov. 8) at Assumption University.  The NE10 conference opener is a rematch of last season's Championship contest.
