Post Ends Season for Men's Soccer in PKs, Following 1-1 Draw

Penmen dip to 2-5 in PKs all-time in the NCAA Championship

Junior Tyler Kraft (Londonderry, N.H.) scored the lone goal for the second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team in the first half of a thrilling NCAA Division II Super Regional second round match with Post University that finished in a 1-1 tie. The Eagles advanced, however, on a penalty kick shootout, 7-6.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Kraft opened the scoring in the 40th minute, capitalizing on touch passes from Fuentes and Gonzalez. Kraft found the back of the net on the lower left side to give the Penmen the lead. It was his first goal of the season.
  • Post answered 38 seconds later off the right foot of Marcus Boe Tunge, who buried a cross-field pass from Fabian Ernst.
  • The Penmen were assessed a red card and played down a man for the final 18:05 of regulation and both overtimes.
  • With an opportunity for a Post win, graduate student Jurgen Huber (Schorfing, Austria) made an amazing, do-or-die, stretch save to his left side to extend the shootout.
  • Graduate student Chus Ortega (Santander, Spain) fired a rocket of a shot to score the final PK for the Penmen and put them up, 6-5.
  • After a save by Ricardo Moreno, Santiago Palacios scored for Post to end the season for the Penmen.

  • Neal stopped five shots, while the Penmen also recorded a team save.
  • Post 'keeper Ricardo Moreno made seven saves.
  • SNHU outshot Post, 17-16, including 8-7 in shots on goal.
  • Southern New Hampshire held a strong lead in corners, 8-3.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire ends the season with a seven-match unbeaten streak (4-0-3).
  • SNHU dips to 21-17-7 (.544) in its 24th appearance all-time in the NCAA postseason. It was the first meeting with Post in the NCAA Championship.
  • It is the seventh occasion SNHU has gone to PKs in the NCAA Championship and the fifth time it has come out on the losing end.
  • The Penmen still lead the all-time series with Post, 10-2-3, and are unbeaten in 10 of the last 11 meetings (7-1-3), including three straight. SNHU defeated the Eagles, 7-0, in a regular-season road victory back on Sept. 11.
  • Kraft's goal was his first of the season and fourth of his career.
  • SNHU is 145-39-27 (.751) over its last 211 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
  • The Penmen move to 98-15-17 (.819) over their last 130 contests at home, including 36-8-10 (.759) at Ouellette Stadium.
