Ice Hockey Falls 5-4 at Assumption Saturday

Junior Kurt Watson (London, Ont.) scored twice and junior Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) had a goal and two assists but Southern New Hampshire ice hockey fell 5-4 at Assumption University on Saturday afternoon.

 KEY MOMENTS
 
  • After giving up two first-period goals, the Penmen rallied to tie.
  • Lynch followed up his own shot to make it 2-1 at 2:12 of the second period.  Graduate student Derek Flynn (Dracut, Mass.) and junior Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.) had assists.
  • The game-tying goal came at 4:23 of the third period on the power play as Gray redirected a blast from freshman Ryan Kayser (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).
  • The Greyhounds scored three straight goals over a span of 3:53 in the third period to open the lead to 5-2 before SNHU rallied back with a pair of goals by Watson, the final coming with an extra attacker with 25 seconds left.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Assumption had a 44-41 shot advantage.
  • The Penmen went 1-for-5 on the power play and the Greyhounds were 1-for-7.
NOTES
  • Assumption sweeps the weekend set in Worcester.  The teams will meet later in the season in Hooksett.
  • Assumption has a 44-42-5 edge in the all-time series including wins in six of the last seven.
  • Sophomore Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) made 39 saves in his second start of the season.
  • Greyhound goaltender Thomas McLarnon made 37 saves.
  • Kayser picked up his first career point for SNHU.

  • The Penmen will play its home opener at The Ice Den in Hooksett, N.H. next Tuesday (November 11) against Keene State College.
