Women's Basketball Takes Down Bridgeport In Saturday Non-Conference Contest

Stephanie Davis Leads With 16 Points In 61-51 Win

Graduate student Stephanie Davis (Windham, N.H.) pumped in a game-high 16 points and junior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) added a double-double as SNHU Women's Basketball won 61-51 at the University of Bridgeport on Saturday.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Davis – 16 points (6-10 FG, 1-2 3-FG, 3-4 FT), 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
• Gordon – 11 points (4-9 FG, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
• Sophomore Abby Wager (Mansfield, Mass.)- 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-3 FT), 1 rebound, 3 assists, 1 block, 2 steals

KEY MOMENTS
• The Penmen has a terrific shooting first quarter, opening a 23-9 lead by hitting 9-for-14 (64.3%) and all four free throws.
• Wager scored seven of her 11 points in the second quarter to put SNHU up 34-23 at the half.
• The Penmen took advantage of six third-quarter turnovers by the Purple Knights in the third quarter to maintain the double-digit lead.
• A lay-up by junior Matilde Baron (Vicenza, Italy) put SNHU up 54-36 early in the fourth quarter, the largest lead they would have in the game.
• Bridgeport rallied from that point with nine straight points to make it 54-45, but could not close the gap over the final 6:24.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• All 10 players for SNHU scored in the game.  The Penmen were led off the bench by sophomore Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) with five points and three rebounds.
• The Penmen shot 22-for-50 (44.0%) including 4-for-17 (23.5%) from three-point range and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the line.
• Bridgeport shot 19-for-64 (29.7%), going 9-for-33 (27.3%) from three-point range and 4-for-7 from the charity stripe.
• UB had a 40-35 edge on rebounds and 16-10 on assists.  They also had a 16-9 steal advantage over the Penmen.
• SNHU turned the ball over 20 times and the Purple Knights had 21. 

NOTES
• SNHU has won three of its last four games.
• The Penmen trail the all-time series with Bridgeport 26-23 but SNHU has won the last seven meetings and 13 of the previous 15 with the Purple Knights.
• SNHU is 65-30 (.684) since the 2021-22 season started.

• SNHU will meet D'Youville University for the first time next Saturday (Dec. 21) at 12:00 p.m. at the Stan Spirou Field House.
