Amante Scores Twice But Penmen Fall At Saint Anselm

Senior Matt Amante (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored twice, but SNHU saw its three-game winning streak snapped in an 8-3 loss to Saint Anselm College Saturday at Sullivan Arena.

KEY MOMENTS
 
  • Luke Linart tallied at 11:14 of the first period to put the Hawks up 1-0.
  • Saint Anselm added a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the second period on goals by Will Van Der Veen and Hunter Brackett to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Amante's first goal cut the deficit to 3-1 just nine seconds into a power-play at 4:20.  Clear sent the puck to the right dot for the Amante shot with Lynch also getting an assist.
  • The Hawks responded on a goal by Mark Blaney to make it 4-1.
  • Amante scored his second power-play goal at 16:48 of the second period when he rebounded a shot by Clear to make it 4-2.  Junior Tucker Twardosky (Merrimack, N.H.) had the second assist on the marker.
  • The Penmen made it 5-3 at 17:40 on a power-play goal from Gray off a feed from Lynch.  Senior Derek Flynn (Dracut, Mass.) also assisted on the play.
  • The Hawks added three goals, two empty netters, in the final minutes for the 8-3 win.

  • Saint Anselm had a 40-38 shot advantage for the game.
  • The Penmen went 3-for-8 on the power-play while Saint Anselm was 1-for-1.
  • SNHU had a 42-37 advantage on face-offs.
  • Cam Carroll made 36 saves to earn the win.
NOTES
  • Amante recorded his second two-goal game of the season, giving him nine for the season.
  • Amante and sophomore Kurt Watson (London, Ont.) are tied for the team lead with nine goals.
  • Watson leads the Penmen with 20 points (9 goals and 11 assists).
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series 43-13-2 and won this year's series 2-1-1 to earn the Hawks two Queen City Cup points.  SNHU leads the annual competition 14-8 with two more points on the line at next weekend's NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships.
  • The Penmen hold second place in the Northeast-10 with two games remaining in the regular season.  SNHU (29) is one point ahead of Franklin Pierce (28) and Saint Michael's (28).  Assumption is the regular season champion.

  • The final regular season series with Assumption University is Friday (2/16) and Saturday (2/17) at The Ice Den Arena.  Both games are 7:40 p.m. and the Penmen seniors will be honored Saturday before the game with the Greyhounds.
