Lynch's Three-Point Night Powers Penmen Into NE10 Semis

Sophomore Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) scored a goal and assisted on two others as SNHU defeated Post 4-1 in the first-round of the Northeast-10 playoffs on Tuesday at The Ice Den Arena.

KEY MOMENTS
 
  • A short-handed goal by Patrick Murphy of Post gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead at 10:20 of the first period.  
  • The Penmen responded with a power-play goal just 32 seconds later when Lynch found the net off a feed from senior Matt Amante (West Hempstead, N.Y.).  Junior Ryan Clear (Cherry Hill, N.J.) also assisted on the play.
  • The game-winning goal came at 12:47 of the first period, and it was the first career goal for Darby.  Lynch won a face-off in the Eagle zone and sent the puck to Darby for the blast that put the Penmen up 2-1.
  • Neither team scored in the second period, although the Penmen had several man-up opportunities to work with.
  • In the third period, Twardosky gave SNHU a 3-1 lead with his sixth goal of the season.  Lynch earned his second assist on the goal.
  • Watson added a late goal with the Penmen sitting on a two-man advantage with senior Derek Flynn (Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore Jim Minnig (Auburn, Pa.) picking up the assists.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen outshot the Eagles 36-29 for the contest.
  • SNHU went 2-for-8 on the power-play while Post was 0-for-5.
NOTES
  • The Penmen picked up a post-season win for the first time since winning the Northeast-10 Championship in March of 2019.
  • SNHU won all five contests with Post this season and now leads the all-time series 19-5.
  • Lynch and Watson both have amassed 23 points this season to lead the Penmen.  Lynch has a team-high 15 assists.
  • Berke has won six consecutive starts for the Penmen, improving to 8-4-0 in his first year with the program.

  • The third-seeded Penmen will play the NE10 Semifinal at second-seed Saint Michael's College on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 4:00 p.m.
