Myrtle Beach Trip Starts With First Win for Head Coach Chris Shank

Sophomore Austin Trumpour (Jensen Beach, Fla.) tossed six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, and the Penmen hit three homers in a 10-3 victory over Felician University to start the Myrtle Beach on Thursday.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
  • Trumpour stranded five Felician runners over the first two innings to keep the game scoreless.
  • SNHU exploded for five runs on five hits in the top of the fifth inning.  Sophomore Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) walked and Kienzle bunted him to second.  A single by graduate student Luca Giallongo (Mt. Shasta, Calif.) made it 1-0.
  • Harry Vargas Segura followed with a home run.
  • A single by Wouters and a double by sophomore Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.) put runners at second and third.  A sacrifice fly by Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn) added another run, and senior Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) singled to make it 5-0.
  • The Penmen chased Felician starter Mike Caldon with a pair of solo homers in the top of the sixth by Wachter and Kienzle for a 7-0 lead.
  • Trumpour left after six innings with sophomore Connor Jensen (Shelton, Conn.) coming on in relief. 
  • After Felician scored a run in the seventh, SNHU went up 10-1 in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI force out by Giallongo and a double-run by Wouters.
  • Felician scored a pair of runs in the ninth with graduate student Zachary Gitschier (Lowell, Mass.) recording the final out in relief.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The home run for Vargas Segura was his first of the season.  He leads the team with six hits and six RBI's. 
  • All ten offensive players had at least one hit for SNHU.  
NOTES
  • The win gives Head Coach Chris Shank his first win since taking over the program.  He is also credited with 31 wins while serving as Interim Coach of the Penmen in 2014-15.
  • Trumpour started a game for the second time in Myrtle Beach.  He worked five innings in a win over Saint Thomas Aquinas last season.
  • Felician and SNHU have met eight times over the past thirteen seasons in Myrtle Beach.  The Golden Falcons had defeated the Penmen at the Ripken Experience each of the past two seasons. 
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Felician 23-5.
