  • Wachter (Concord, N.H.) – 2-4, RBI
  • Junior Harry Vargas Segura (Bronx, N.Y.) – 1-3, BB, 2 SB
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen had a good chance to score in the top of the fourth inning after sophomore Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Jake Pisano (Hamden, Con..) drew walks to start the frame. Queens hurler Jordan Sanabria then recorded three straight outs to keep the score tied at 0-0.
  • DeMaro set down the first ten Queens batters before allowing a single by Marc Cisco with one out in the fourth.
  • The Penmen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning.  Lavigne walked and Pisano singled.  Wachter then broke the tie with a single to center to score Lavigne.
  • Graduate student Zachary Gitschier (Lowell, Mass.) came on in relief of DeMaro and held Queens in check until two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
  • Five consecutive batters reached starting with a walk to Phil Krpata.  Then on four consecutive pitches, Queens went double-single-single-double to score four runs.
  • Knight reliever Peter Nenadich III, who earned the win, set down the final seven Southern New Hampshire batters, five by strikeout.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Queens starter Jordan Sanabria, a senior, allowed one hit in his five scoreless innings, a double by Wachter in the second inning.   He walked three and struck out five.
  • Sophomore Dyrenson Wouters (Oranjestad, Aruba) and Pisano each reached base twice with a single and a walk.
  • Freshman Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.) needed one pitch to close out the bottom of the eighth inning after coming on in relief for SNHU.
NOTES
  • The Penmen starters have worked 12 scoreless innings in the two Myrtle Beach games.
  • DeMaro's six innings pitched, and seven strikeouts, were both career highs.
  • Vargas Segura is 7-for-18 (.389) to lead the team with Wachter next at 5-for-13 (.385).
  • Wachter has hits in all four games he has played.
  • Friday's contest with Queens was supposed to start at 4 p.m. but did not begin until after 9 p.m. after rain and thunderstorms pushed the day's schedule well into the evening.
  • This marks the first win for the Knights over SNHU after the Penmen had won the first eight meetings.
UP NEXT
