HOW IT HAPPENED
  • New Haven jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the opening 6:49, before Renaud scored three of game's next five goals on her own to make it 8-3 with 3:38 left in the first quarter. UNH would add another to go in front, 9-3, after one.
  • Southern New Hampshire came out with three of the first four goals in the second quarter, including two by Hadden, to trim its deficit to 10-6. It was a six-goal game when Cole found the back of the net and set up Renaud's fifth of the half to send the Penmen to the break trailing, 13-9.
  • Renaud opened the second-half scoring just 1:14 in to get the Penmen within three and would score again in the frame, but New Haven extended its advantage to 18-12 after three quarters.
  • SNHU dialed up the urgency, scoring the first four goals of the final frame to slash its deficit to 18-16 with 7:30 on the clock. Hadden notched the first three goals, while McLaughlin tallied a goal and two assists during the stretch. The Chargers stopped the bleeding with an insurance tally at the 4:08 mark, before Renaud set up Hadden with three minutes to go. That was as close as the visitors would get, however.
