Women's Lacrosse Tops Presbyterian in Home Opener

Graziano Scores Four Times in 14-12 Win

Graduate student Angelina Graziano (Riverhead, N.Y.) scored four goals and senior Shelby Cole (Gilford, N.H.) tallied three times and added three assists as SNHU Women's Lacrosse won its home opener, 14-12 over Presbyterian University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Presbyterian's Willow Hammond scored the first of her two goals at 13:13 of the first quarter, but SNHU responded by scoring the next five goals.
  • Renaud scored two of the first three Penmen goals and Graziano, Cole, and DeLucia added markers.
  • The Blue Hose cut the lead to 5-4 thanks to a pair of man-up goals before the Penmen finished the quarter on goals by Cole and Anderson to make it 7-4.
  • The Penmen led 10-8 at halftime on second-quarter goals by Cole, Graziano, and junior Rachel McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.)
  • The teams only managed four goals apiece after intermission with SNHU maintaining at least a two-goal lead through the second half.
  • Renaud's 20th of the season came with 12:09 to play in the third quarter to make it 11-8.
  • Graziano scored a pair of goals within a 2:38 as SNHU led 13-10.
  • Anderson scored her second goal on a free position shot with 7:34 to play for the final SNHU goal of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Mirra (Cicero, N.Y.) played the entire contest for SNHU, making seven saves.
  • Southern New Hampshire outshot Presbyterian 27-22.
  • SNHU held an 18-12 edge in draw controls, while Presbyterian had a 21-15 advantage on ground balls.
  • The Blue Hose were 17-19 on clear attempts and SNHU was 18-21.
  • SNHU was 3-for-5 on its free position shots compared to 1-for-2 for Presbyterian.
  • The Penmen had 18 of the game's 35 turnovers.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire is receiving votes in the latest ILWomen/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Poll.
  • This was the first meeting between the Penmen and Division I Presbyterian.  The Blue Hose roster has two athletes from New Hampshire, Kylie Sullivan and Brooke Chandler. 
  • DeLucia's 8 draw controls leave her just 40 shy of matching the program's record.
  • Renaud leads the NE10 with 20 goals and graduate student Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) had a pair of assists to give her the league led with 29 points.

  • The Penmen return to action Friday, March 22 (5 p.m.) when they host Franklin Pierce University at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium.
