Men's Tennis Pulls Away from Saint Michael's in 5-2 Victory

Freshman Jaden Williams (Green Acres, Fla.) and sophomore Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany) both won a pair of matches to push the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team past Saint Michael's College, 5-2, Wednesday at the Tarrant Recreation Center.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • With Southern New Hampshire holding on to a 3-2 lead, Williams clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles against Ruben Weijer. Williams also combined with Roeder to double up Jack Li and Garrett Brooker, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles.
  • Roeder added the exclamation point with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles over Brooker.
  • Senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) gave the Penmen a 2-1 lead when he rallied against Tristian Du Plessis at No. 1 singles for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 triumph.
  • Sophomore Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) outlasted Jackson Moster, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
  • Graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) pulled out a 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory versus Julius van den Broek at No. 4 singles.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won seven of its last nine, including two straight.
  • Junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) was handed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 defeat at No. 2 singles by Sergio Barroso.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 19-5, and extends its winning streak against the Purple Knights to 18. The Penmen have also won seven-in-a-row on the road. The last time SMC defeated SNHU on its home court was Sept. 30, 2007 (6-3).
