Joel Valera (Boston, Mass.) delivered a two-run double as part of a go-ahead, five-run seventh inning that sent the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team to a 7-2 victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Assumption University in its home opener at Penmen Field. The Greyhounds took the opener, 8-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
- Assumption jumped out to a 2-0 lead against sophomore Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) in the top of the third, before doubling its advantage with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth.
- The Greyhounds used a sacrifice fly in the fifth to go up five, but Southern New Hampshire responded to the run in the home half when freshman Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch.
- An RBI groundout in the sixth from senior Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) and a walk to Roldan with the bases loaded in the seventh answered single runs from Assumption in the top half of each frame to bring the score to 7-3.
- The Greyhounds tacked on another run in the eighth.
INSIDE THE BOX – GAME ONE
- Sophomore Dyrenson Wouters (Oranjestad, Aruba) finished 2-for-5.
- Redshirt-freshman Ruben Fernandez (Providence, R.I.) was 1-for-2 with a walk.
- Sophomore Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored.
- DeMaro (0-2) was charged with five runs – two earned – on six hits, while striking out five and walking three, over five innings.
- Senior Griffin Gilbert (Concord, N.H.) gave up three runs – two earned – on five hits, punching out four and walking a pair in three innings of work.
- Freshman Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.) allowed a pair of hits in a scoreless ninth.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
- Assumption again grabbed an early lead off a two-out RBI single against Brassill in the second.
- Another run-scoring base hit in the third doubled the Greyhound lead to 2-0.
- Southern New Hampshire produced its first run in the fifth when Wachter led off with a single to left and later scored on a two-out fielding error that trimmed the deficit to one.
- The Penmen pulled even the following inning when Burgos launched his league-leading 10th home run to left to make it 2-2.
- SNHU took control with a five-run seventh, as senior Anderson Moreno (Bronx, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error by the shortstop that snapped the tie. Valera followed with a two-run double down the left field line that expanded the Penmen lead to 5-2. SNHU added two more unearned runs on a sac fly off the bat of Wouters and another error by the shortstop.
INSIDE THE BOX – GAME TWO
- Roldan went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run.
- Valera (two RBI, run, double, walk), Wachter (run, walk) and sophomore Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.) all finished 1-for-3.
- Burgos was 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored.
- Junior Harry Vargas Segura (Bronx, N.Y.) went 1-for-5 with a double.
NOTES
- Lendrum went the first six innings for the Penmen, allowing six runs, but just two earned.
- Burgos paces the NE10 with 10 home runs.
- Lendrum has allowed just five runs in 22-and-two-thirds innings over his last four appearances (2-0, 1 save, 1.99 ERA).
- Vargas Segura, who's hitting .356, has reached safely in 23 straight games. He has 32 hits and 23 walks with a .492 OBP.
- Lavigne had reached safely in 20 consecutive games before going 0-for-3 in the opener.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with the Greyhounds, 51-25-2. The Penmen have won 12 of the last 14, but had its five-game winning streak snapped with the game-one loss. The defeat also snapped an 11-game home winning streak at Penmen Field that dated back to April 16, 2016.
