Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) had four hits including two more home runs as SNHU baseball split a doubleheader Monday with Jefferson. The Penmen won the opener 9-4 before falling 8-7 in the nightcap.

GAME 1: SNHU 9-4 (7 inn.)
- Wachter and Wouters hit home runs in the second inning. Wouters blast was a three-run shot to make it 4-0.
- Sophomore Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) led off the third inning with his first home run of the season to extend the lead to 5-0.
- Valera delivered an RBI single to score Burgos, who had singled to put SNHU up 6-0.
- Vargas Segura reached on a fielders choice as graduate student Jamie Roldan (Boston, Mass.) scored to give the Penmen a 7-0 lead.
- Burgos homered in the top of the fifth inning to make it 8-1.
- DeMaro walked with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh for a final run.
NOTES
- SNHU outhit Jefferson 10-7 with Burgos (three), Segura (two), and Wachter (two) leading the way.
- Trumpour worked the first six innings for the second time this season, earning his second win. His seven strikeouts give him a Northeast-10 leading 19 for the season.
- Senior Parker Hansen (Granby, Conn.) worked a scoreless seventh inning.
- The win was the 150th for Head Coach Chris Shank at SNHU, Eastern Nazarene, and New England College.
GAME 2: JEFFERSON 8-7 (7 inn.)
- A big lead evaporated late for the Penmen as the Rams scored eight times in the final three innings and earned a walk-off victory in the series finale.
- SNHU took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to a two-run double by senior Dylan O'Sullivan (Manchester, N.H.) and a two-run single by Vargas Segura.
- Burgos hit a two-run homer in the third inning to put the Penmen in front 6-0.
- A groundout by Wouters plated Vargas Segura in the fourth, but SNHU did not score after that.
- DeMaro left with a 7-1 lead after the Rams scored an unearned run in the fifth.
- A three-run homer by Jefferson's Alex Gonzalez cut the lead to 7-4 after six frames.
- The unfortunate final frame saw the Rams score four runs on walks and two hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded and a game-ending error.
NOTES
- DeMaro has made three appearances including two starts and has allowed just one earned run in 15 innings with 15 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .185 against him.
- Burgos leads the Northeast-10 conference with six homers and 14 RBIs. He has now homered in three consecutive games.
- Vargas Segura had one of the four Penmen hits to extend his hit streak to ten games. He had three stolen bases in the game to give him an NE-10 leading nine.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with Jefferson 4-1. The programs had only met once previously. That came in the 1997 ECAC Division II Championship, won by New Hampshire College 7-5 over Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science.
UP NEXT
- SNHU is scheduled to meet St. Thomas Aquinas College for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend (noon). The games (Saturday and Sunday) are slated to be played at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.
