Graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) had a hand in clinching both the match and the doubles point to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory against Palm Beach Atlantic University to cap its Florida trip Friday afternoon at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Ouwejan was in front, 6-4, 1-0, at No. 4 singles when Axel Reich was forced to retire. Ouwejan also combined with junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) for a 6-1 triumph over Noah Muyale and Marko Visontai to clinch the point at No. 3 doubles.
- Berling pulled out a 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 victory against Roberto Binaghi at No. 1 singles.
- Junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) outlasted Jaunfer Contreras, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 13-11, at No. 3 singles. He also teamed with senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) to edge Binaghi and Luis Eduardo Platas, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles.
- Freshman Jaden Williams (Green Acres, Fla.) was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 6 singles over Joseph Ramirez. He and sophomore Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) also posted a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles against Peter Drager and Juan Fernandez.
NOTES
- The win halts a two-match losing streak for SNHU.
- Den Hartog suffered a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 loss at No. 2 singles to Platas.
- The Penmen snap a four-match skid against the Sailfish to improve to 1-4 all-time against Palm Beach Atlantic.
