Graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) rallied for a three-set win at No. 5 singles to lift the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team over in-state rival Franklin Pierce University, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the FPU Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- With the match knotted at 3-all, Ouwejan dropped a marathon first set to Alejandro Ortiz, 6-7 (7-9), but rallied to take sets two and three, 6-4, 6-4 and win the match for the Penmen. Ouwejan also teamed with junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) to edge Preston Gordon and Orlando Guerrero, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles.
- Berling made quick work of Joe Herin at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
- Senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) downed Ralph Hiebel, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles and also clinched the doubles point at No. 1 with junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick), as they doubled up Herin and Noe Martin, 6-3.
- Sophomore Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) and freshman Jaden Williams (Green Acres, Fla.) also won, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles versus Ortiz and Hiebel.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has won 10 of its last 13, including five of six and two straight.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with FPU, 18-6, with the Penmen winning four of the last six, including two-in-a-row on the road.
