Junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) and graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) each won a pair of matches to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory against Assumption University on Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts. The win earned the Penmen a share of the NE10 Regular-Season Championship.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Nadeau clinched the win with his No. 3 singles victory, defeating Adrian Toderascu, 6-4, 6-2. He also combined with senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) for a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles against Yannick Heitzberg and Jakob Bordt that clinched the point.
- Ouwejan recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win against Bernardo Balancho at No. 5 singles. He also teamed with sophomore Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) for a 6-2 take-down of Toderascu and Balancho at No. 3 doubles.
- Junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) outlasted Heitzberg at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8.
- Sophomore Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany) made quick work of Henri Shibata at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has won 11 of its last 14, including six of seven and three straight.
- It is SNHU's seventh NE10 Regular-Season Championship and third since 2018-19, including its second straight.
- The Penmen finish in a two-way tie for first place in the NE10 standings with Adelphi University, which earned the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed via its 2-0 record head-to-head with SNHU this season. Southern New Hampshire, the No. 2 seed, hosts the entire NE10 Championship at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts on May 2 and 3. The Penmen host third-seeded Franklin Pierce University in the semifinals on May 2 (2 p.m.). The top-seeded Panthers play host to fourth-seeded Assumption in the other semi at 10 a.m. the two winners meet in the finals May 3 at noon.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with Assumption, 16-3, and extends its winning streak against the Greyhounds to eight. The last Assumption win in the series came at SNHU on April 17, 2015 (6-3). The Penmen have also captured seven of eight, including four straight, at home, versus the Greyhounds.
