Women's Lacrosse Breaks Single-Game Goals Record in 26-11 Win Over American Int'l

Hadden notches nine points, while Cole and Graziano each pile on eight

Senior Shelby Cole (Gilford, N.H.) scored a season-high six goals, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team set a new program record for goals in a 26-11 triumph over American International College on Senior Day at Ouellette Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Renaud and Pietz scored to give Southern New Hampshire a 2-0 lead in the first 28 seconds, but AIC scored three straight to take the lead with 11:14 remaining in the opening quarter. SNHU would score five of the next seven goals to go in front, 7-5, with 5:16 to play. Cole scored twice during the stretch, while Hadden added a goal and an assist. After AIC pulled within 7-6 with 3:22 on the clock. The Penmen responded by scoring five times over the final 2:12 – with Graziano and Cole each registering two goals and an assist – to open a 12-6 advantage at the end of one.
  • The Penmen would pick up in the second quarter where they left off in the first, recording the first seven goals to break it wide open at 19-6. Hadden collected three goals and a helper during the outburst, with Cole adding a pair of tallies. AIC would break a scoreless stretch of 12:52 of game time, but Anderson would find the back of the net and then set up the first career goal for freshman Charlotte Brown (Cheshire, Conn.) to send the Penmen to the break with a commanding 21-7 lead.
  • During a 5-0 third period for SNHU that extended the lead to 26-7, junior Teagan McInnis (Bedford, N.H.), freshman Gianna Silverio (Methuen, Mass.) and junior Brooke Deily (Doylestown, Pa.) would all notch their first career goals.
  • AIC broke another long scoreless stretch of 22:16 with a a goal 1:48 into the final frame. The Yellow Jackets would outscore the Penmen, 4-0, in the fourth to close the gap.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Senior goalkeeper Megan Petko (Monroe, N.Y.) stopped two shots in the first half, while freshman Nicole Mirra (Cicero, N.Y.) made three saves on seven shots in the second half.
  • AIC goalkeeper Marissa Long turned away eight bids in the opening half, while Hailey Davis came on in relief to save three of eight shots in the second half.
  • Freshman Natalie Bosselman (Falmouth, Mass.) also scored the second goal of her career in the third quarter.
  • Southern New Hampshire outshot American Int'l, 42-18, including 22-2 in the middle two periods.
  • SNHU owned advantages in ground balls (26-13) and draw controls (24-15).
  • The Penmen were a perfect 14-for-14 on their clear attempts, with the Yellow Jackets going 7-for-10.
  • SNHU was 4-for-4 on its free-position attempts, while AIC went 1-for-2.
  • The Yellow Jackets had 13 of the game's 25 turnovers.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won three of its last five, including two straight.
  • The 26 goals top the previous program record of 24, set against Converse University on March 25, 2010 and duplicated Feb. 29, 2020 against Dominican (N.Y.) University.
  • The 21 goals in the opening half are also the most in any half for SNHU, breaking the previous record of 18 goals against Southern Connecticut State University in the first half April 17, 2010.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with AIC, 16-3. The Penmen have captured 16 of the last 17 meetings, including five straight. SNHU has also won nine-in-a-row at home versus the Yellow Jackets.
  • Hadden leads the NE10 in points (73), ranks third in goals (48) and is eighth in assists (25). The 73 points are ninth most in a single-season in program history.
  • Graziano is fourth in the league in goals (45) and sixth in points (61), while Cole is ninth in points (53) and 10th in assists (22). Renaud is also ninth in points (53).
  • Graziano scored the 150th goal of her career with her final tally of the day, moving her into a fifth-place tie with Carole Lee (2007-10) on the program's all-time list. Cole is right behind in seventh place with 147 goals, as she moved past Emily King (2012-15), who notched 146.
  • Graziano is up to 222 career points and passed Jennifer Parro (2006-09; 218) for fifth place on the program's all-time list. Cole moved past both Sherry Darrell (2008-10; 213) and Parro, and into sixth place with 218.
  • Graziano (72) also leapfrogged over Cole (71) for fifth place on the program's all-time assists list.
  • Cole, Graziano, DeLucia, Renaud, Pietz, Petko, senior Layne Walther (Center Moriches, N.Y.) and graduate student Jenn Curran (Arlington, Mass.) were honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the game.

WHAT'S NEXT

  • The Penmen return to action Wednesday, April 24 (4 p.m.) when they take on the College of Saint Rose.
  • The final regular-season home contest of the year is Tuesday, April 30 when SNHU plays host to Saint Michael's College at Ouellette Stadium.
