Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) established the program's new single-season home run record, homering twice and knocking in eight runs to lead the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Saint Michael's College on Saturday at Penmen Field. SNHU posted a 16-6 victory in game one and then rolled to a 22-3 win in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
- Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the home half of the first. Wouters drew a walk, stole second and went to third when the catcher's throw squirted into centerfield, and scored on Wachter's sacrifice fly to deep center. Sophomore Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) and Burgos followed with two-out, back-to-back solo jacks.
- Saint Michael's answered back with two in the top of the second, including a solo bomb to left off the bat of Max Kolifrath.
- SNHU went up, 4-2, in the bottom of the frame when Freshman Joel Valera (Boston, Mass.) singled up the middle with two outs, swiped second and scored on Vargas Segura's base hit to center.
- Kolifrath launched his second home run of the game with two outs in the third to pull the Purple Knights within 4-3.
- The Penmen added two more in the fifth. Lavigne led off with a double to right-center and scored on Vargas Segura's RBI groundout to second. Junior Anderson Moreno (Bronx, N.Y.), who walked, later scored on a two-out balk to make it 6-3.
- SNHU scored three more in a long fifth inning that was highlighted by a two-run homer to center by O'Sullivan. Two other unearned runs came across during the three-error inning that stretched the lead to 10-3.
- Another two-run blast from Sullivan down the left field line and an RBI groundout by Valera opened the lead to 13-3 in the sixth.
- An RBI double down the left field line from Burgos and a sac fly to center off the bat of Lavigne pushed the Penmen advantage to 15-3 in the seventh.
- SNHU answered a Saint Michael's run in the top of the eighth with a sac fly to center from Pisano in the home half, moving the score to 16-4.
- The Purple Knights tacked on a pair in the ninth.
INSIDE THE BOX – GAME ONE
- Burgos (two RBI, three runs, home run, double, three walks, two steals) and Lavigne (RBI, three runs, two doubles, walk) were both a perfect 3-for-3.
- O'Sullivan (four RBI, two runs, two home runs, walk), Pisano (two RBI, two runs, home run) and Wouters (run, walk, two steals) each went 2-for-5.
- Vargas Segura was 2-for-6 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
- Wachter went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run and pair of walks.
- Valera finished 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Moreno was 0-for-3, but walked twice and scored a pair of runs.
- Senior Parker Hansen (Granby, Conn.) allowed one run on one hit in an inning of work, while striking out a pair and walking one.
- Freshman Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.) gave up two runs – one earned – on three hits, while fanning a batter, in one inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
- Burgos pushed Southern New Hampshire out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-out, two-run double down the left field line.
- Saint Michael's pulled even in the third with a pair of runs, including a solo shot to left-center by Terence Moynihan.
- SNHU answered both runs in the home half to go back in front, 4-2, on a sac fly to center by Pisano and an RBI double down the right field line from Burgos.
- The Penmen started to pull away with a four-run fourth. After an RBI double to the gap in left-center by Moreno, Vargas Segura swatted a three-run homer to run that made it 8-2.
- SNHU broke it open with three more in the six on an RBI single by Wouters and a two-run blast to center from Wachter that pushed the lead to 11-2.
- The Penmen took advantage of two errors in the seventh to hang four more runs, including RBI doubles by Wouters and Wachter, to extend the margin to 12 at 15-3.
- SNHU exploded for seven in the eighth. Redshirt-freshman Ruben Fernandez (Providence, R.I.) contributed a pinch-hit, RBI double to left-center and Wouters added an RBI single that made it 17-3. A two-run double to left-center from Wachter nudged it to 19-3, before Burgos broke the program's single-season home run record with a three-run shot to center that expanded the lead to 22-3.
INSIDE THE BOX – GAME TWO
- Roldan went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a double.
- Vargas Segura was 2-for-3 with three RBI, four runs scored a home run, three walks and three steals.
- Wachter (five RBI, three runs, home run, two doubles, walk, steal) and Wouters (three RBI, four runs, double, walk) were both 3-for-5.
- Burgos finished 3-for-6 with six RBI, a run scored, a home run and pair of doubles.
- Moreno was 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a double.
- O'Sullivan went 1-for-4 with a run and a walk.
- Fernandez (RBI, run, double) and sophomore Steven Kienzle (Holbrook, N.Y.) both went 1-for-1 in pinch-hitting duties.
- Valera went 0-for-3, but walked and scored a pair of runs.
- Pisano was 0-for-4, but collected an RBI and a run, and drew a walk.
- Sophomore Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) started and allowed two runs on five hits over three innings, while striking out three and not walking a batter.
- Sophomore Ben Hladun (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has now won three straight and outscored its opponents, 55-11, during the stretch.
- The 22 runs in game two are a season high and the most since a 23-2 victory at Saint Michael's on April 22 of last season.
- The Penmen improve to 44-2 all-time versus Saint Michael's and have won 36 straight meetings. They are a perfect 24-0 at home versus the Purple Knights, who last won a game in the series April 17, 2013 (8-2) on its home field.
- Burgos' home run in game one tied the program's single-season record, while his shot in game two established a new mark with his 15th of the year. He now has 18 in his Penmen career. He leads the NE10 in home runs and RBI (50).
- Pisano's homer is his second of the season and eighth of his career.
- O'Sullivan's two bombs were his first and second of the season, as well as the 11th of his career.
- Wachter's home run is the eighth of his rookie campaign.
- Vargas Segura's long-ball with his seventh home run of the season and 11th of his career.
- Vargas Segura continues to pace the league in steals (36).
- Vargas Segura extended his hitting streak to eight games, while Burgos has a base knock in six straight.
- DeMaro leads the NE10 with a 1.84 earned-run average (ERA).
