HOW IT HAPPENED
- Saint Michael's struck first against sophomore starter Zach Brassill (No. Hampton, N.H.) in the top of the first, using an RBI single to left to make it 1-0. The Purple Knights would strand a pair in scoring position.
- Southern New Hampshire went ahead with two in the bottom of the inning. Wouters tripled to right-center and then scored on a Wachter base hit to left to tie the game. Three batters later, with runners at the corners, Burgos stole second and the throw down allowed Pisano to come home and give SNHU the 2-1 lead.
- The Penmen capitalized on an error in the second, with Wachter being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to nudge the lead to 3-1.
- SNHU extended its advantage to 5-1 in the third on a two-run blast to center off the bat of Roldan.
- A fielder's choice ground out with the bases loaded trimmed the Saint Michael's deficit to 5-2 after a pair of hit batters and a walk knocked Brassill from the game in the fifth.
- A Wachter sac fly to left and a two-run single to center off the bat of O'Sullivan made it 8-2 in the sixth.
- The Penmen hung a seven-spot in the seventh, with five runs scoring before an out was recorded. Two-run doubles from Wachter and Burgos, followed by a run-scoring single from Lavigne, brought the score to 13-2. After the ninth batter to hit in the inning made the first out, Vargas Segura jumped on base for the second time in the frame with an RBI single to center. An RBI fielder's choice from Wouters widened the SNHU advantage to 15-2.
- A bases-loaded walk to redshirt-freshman Ruben Fernandez (Providence, R.I.) in the eighth brought the score to 16-2.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Brassill was charged with two runs on two hits in four-and-a-third innings, while striking out four and walking four.
